Aims and Values

From early years to the sixth form, King Edward VII and Queen Mary School aims to provide the highest standards of teaching and individual care to enable each boy and girl to achieve his or her personal potential in and out of the classroom. Our young people are inspired to achieve personal excellence in a supportive, caring and disciplined community. Academic standards are high and music, drama, sport and outdoor pursuits flourish. Individuals grow in confidence through teamwork and a wide variety of opportunities for personal development.

We believe that we have the responsibility, with parents, to contribute to each pupil's growth in terms of physical health, personal and emotional maturity, creative and aesthetic awareness and moral and spiritual development. KEQMS is a non-denominational Christian school that welcomes pupils from many faith communities. There are opportunities for collective worship and personal reflection in assemblies; by learning to respect other beliefs and principles, boys and girls see beyond themselves and grow intellectually and emotionally.

Our aim is to praise, be supportive and to understand each individual boy and girl, whilst insisting that all set themselves the highest standards in work, in personal appearance and organisation and in courtesy and concern for others. Particular attention is paid to the quality of personal relationships where each pupil is valued for his or her individual contribution whilst learning to consider the rights and needs of others and to place the school community first.

A particular feature of KEQMS is the partnership between school and home, which is founded on good communication and shared expectations. Many parents will tell you that they chose KEQMS rather than any of the other good local schools because the pupils here seem particularly happy and balanced.
