Biology
The main development in 2010 was the complete refurbishment and modernisation of the large Biology laboratory. In addition to refurbishing the laboratory itself, the development provided additional storage and an improved display area. The Biology office and the prep. room have also been improved and modernised. Students now enjoy the very best facilities in which to explore the subject. The department also continues to make use of the expertise of the Field Studies Council by carrying out required fieldwork at the Malham Tarn Field Centre in Yorkshire
Biology at all levels provides opportunities and challenges for pupils of different abilities and who have a range of ambitions for their own futures. Success in this subject depends not merely on memory but also demands mathematical, descriptive and analytical skills of the highest order.
At AS level close to 50% of the students achieved an A grade. This success was achieved by consistent hard work over the course of the academic year. At A2, 66% of the group achieved grades A and B. All students passed.
