Library

The new Hawkins Library opened in September of 2005 and is the centre piece of learning in the school.

Many new initiatives have been successfully introduced during the past two years, such as regular structured Library skills lessons for Years 7 and 8 and extended opening hours.

Every new student is given a guided tour of the Library at the beginning of the school year to ensure they can start making use of the facilities as soon as possible. Sixth Form students are encouraged to make the most of their non-contact time in school by time-tabling study periods in the Library. The facility is used extensively during the day by students who have found the studious atmosphere a pleasant place to work.

The Library also doubles as a meeting room with projection facilities and a debating chamber. The Library is in close contact with subject departments to ensure it provides resources relevant to the curriculum. If a student needs a resource which is not in the collection we will do our best to obtain it.

We subscribe to six daily newspapers and the weekly Lytham St Annes Express. We also provide a vast range of magazines and periodicals covering both academic subjects and personal interest.

The many musicians at KEQMS benefit from an extensive collection of classical music CDs which may be either listened to in the Library using headphones or borrowed for one week.

The fiction section in the Library has been dramatically enhanced over the last twelve months to ensure we have a good range of the latest titles in children's and young adult literature. A growing number of educational DVDs has also been introduced to the collection. AS and A-Level text books are available for reference.

The networked computers allow students to log on to their own school account as well as research on the Internet. They are available to use during private study periods and may be reserved during busy lunchtimes.
