Mathematics
The 2010 GCSE results in Mathematics were excellent: over 87% of the candidates attained A* to C grades; over 59% of these attained A* or A grades. The A Level results were also very strong with 17 of the 19 candidates attaining A* to C grades for Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Many of these students have also secured their first choices at Oxford and other prestigious universities this year.
The Mathematics department remains committed to academic excellence and is striving to improve the performance of every student. Teaching staff are making full use of data projection facilities to present their lessons. In 2010 we embarked upon the new GSCE syllabus and continue to monitor students' progress as they navigate through the variety of modules and options before them. Mathematics remains a popular choice at A level. However, it is the department's goal to make Mathematics enjoyable and rewarding for as many pupils as possible across the ability range.
