Psychology
Psychology- the science of mind and behaviour- has maintained its reputation at KEQMS as both a popular and successful subject. It is now widely recognised as a science at university level, and in addition provides students with considerable insight into their own minds and behaviour.
Psychology in itself has a broad number of career optionsclinical psychology, forensic psychology, educational psychology, sport psychology, for example- but is also clearly
beneficial in any profession that centres on human interaction, such as medicine and nursing, law, the armed forces, management, and teaching.
In September 2010, 26 students opted for AS Psychology half of the entire lower sixth. 13 students have this year progressed onto A2 Psychology, and 5 of last year's upper sixth students accepted places on Psychology courses at niversity. Psychology clearly captures the imagination of our sixth formers, and is matched with significant academic success.
In terms of results, in AS Psychology a number of students received high grades and are already considering osychology-related careers. In A2 Psychology, the A*to B pass rate was 73%, including Rachel Williamson, who achieved a 100% mark on the PSYA4 paper- an outstanding result. Well done to all students involved.
Psi Chi, the KEQMS Psychology Society, meets every halfterm.Non-syllabus topics are presented and discussed, for example, personality testing, dream analysis, phobias, depression, and autism, and there is also an opportunity to conduct a group research project. Psi Chi is open to all current sixth formers and interested year 11 students, and is designed to broaden the interest and appeal of psychology as a science that helps us to understand ourselves and others.
