Work and Education
All involve practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing and will be assessed in the following way:
Reading and Listening (each skill 20% of the GCSE). Both these externally marked assessments will be taken in January of Y11 with a possible resit in June of Y11.
Writing and Speaking (each skill 30% of the total GCSE). Two Controlled Assessments will be submitted for each skill. There will be a preparation and planning phase for each and then the actual Controlled Assessment. These may be retaken and the best 2 submitted. It is possible there will be some in the Summer term of Y10, followed by another in each skill in Autumn term of Y11 and then final attempts in the Spring term of Y11. The Speaking assessments will each be in the form of a dialogue lasting 4-6 minutes, whereas for the Writing assessments students should produce between 200-300 words for each if they wish to achieve at least a grade C.
New OUP courses have been adopted for all languages. These comprise a course book and audio CDs together with a grammar workbook and specific examination skills workbooks for both Foundation and Higher tiers. It is hoped students will also make increasing use of the ICT based Oxboxes.
