Year 12 Business Studies Curriculum Plan
The Department
The Business studies department is a thriving part of the Sixth Form. Students opt for this subject after GCSE as something new and exciting which they haven't done before. There are two sets in each year of the sixth form and it proves to be very popular with the students. We study the AS specification as directed by AQA.
Unit 1 BUSS1 Planning and Financing a Business
Starting a small Business
1. Starting a business. Enterprise and entrepreneurs, generating business ideas and their protection. Developing Business Plans, conducting market research, introduction to markets, segmentation and size, growth and share along with basic Supply and demand and an introduction to Price and Income Elasticity. Deciding on legal structure and location and finance.
2. Financial Planning. To include costs/revenues/profit. Break even analysis and contribution understanding. Decision making based on these ideas. Cash Flow and budgeting
Unit 2 BUSS2 Managing a Business
1 Finance. Using Budgets, improving cash flow, measuring and increasing profit.
2 People in Business. Organisational structures, measuring workforce performance.developing an effective workforce.Motivation of the workforce
3 Operations Management. Production systems,Quality, customer service, technology and working with suppliers
4 Marketing and the competitive environment. All aspects to do with marketing including the following: Developing an effective marketing mix; looking at Product,Place, Promotion and Price. Then going on to look at the competitive environment
Assessment.
The students take two examinations in their first year.
In the January of the first year they will take:-
AS module 1 BUSS1 Planning and Financing a Business
In the summer of their first year one further module is taken.
