Description of the Course
Module 3 - Listening, Reading Comprehension and Writing, including an essay on a choice of one of the cultural topics. (35% of total A level marks)
- Environment - pollution, energy, protecting the planet
- The Multicultural Society - immigration, integration, racism
- Contemporary Social Issues - wealth and poverty, law and order, impact of scientific and technological progress.
- Cultural topic (study of a region/community, novelist, dramatist, poet, film director, architect, musician, painter or period of 20th century German history)
Module 4 - Speaking (15% of total A level marks)
The first part of the examination will be based on a stimulus card which the candidate has prepared for 20 minutes before the test. The second part involves discussion on the two cultural topics the student has studied as well as on any of the other three topics. At least two cultural topics will thus be studied - the choice of which may depend on the personal interests and preferences of the individual student.

A variety of other materials are also used, including Authentik for listening and reading comprehension. Textlinks 16+ gives access to a wide range of supplementary internet links and material and these may be accessed by students at all times on the school network in the multi-media language laboratory, the library or any ICT room and at home via a password on the school extranet.
Students continue to enjoy a one-to-one hourly conversation lesson with the native speaker German assistant. These lessons complement the work covered in class and are a useful and valuable means of improving the students' oral proficiency and fluency.
