Year 9 Spanish

In Year 9 students continue with the 2 languages studied in Year 8 for 3 ½ hours per fortnight. They thus have 2 contact sessions with their teacher and 2 homeworks per week in each language and this should facilitate progress. Students are also encouraged to make use of the department's vast range of multi-media resources on the school network in the school library or any ICT room or at home via the Extranet to complement the language introduced and practised in class.

Students should aim to finish Book 2 by the end of Year 9 when they will hopefully decide which language(s) to carry on with to GCSE. Although MFL are no longer compulsory at GCSE, there are many sound educational and vocational reasons for continuing to study at least one foreign language to the age of 16 and beyond.

Assessment tests in Listening Comprehension, Reading Comprehension and Writing will be held towards the end of the Autumn Term and again in the Summer Term. A Speaking Test will be conducted in March and all the results will be collated in June to enable an accurate appraisal of all students' progress.
