Careers Education and Guidance
The aim of the Careers Department is to make all Sixth Form students aware of opportunities post 18, to enable them to make realistic, informed decisions and to support them in the process of transition from school to university or employment.
Scheme Outline
- Transition Learning and Opportunity Awareness.
Students of the immediate past Year 13 share their experiences of the process of their transition from Sixth Form to university and employment.
Higher Education representatives provide information and advice from the institution perspective and attend Parents' Higher Education Evening.
Speakers provide information on a range of topics including Year in Industry, Taking a Gap Year, Budgeting and Finance.
All students have an individual session using UK Course Finder to develop self-awareness in context of available higher education courses.
All students attend a one day Introduction to Higher Education course at Lancaster University.
All students attend the Lancashire Higher Education Conference. - Individual Support and Guidance.
After AS module exams, all students have a one-to-one guidance interview with the Careers Adviser.
All students receive intensive individual support in applying to universities via UCAS.
All students have the experience of a practise interview appropriate to their chosen goal.
The Careers Adviser is present in school from A-level results day onwards to provide help and support to students.
