Netball wins, but Hockey loses out

Thursday was match day for our young netball players as they took on Carr Hill School from Kirkham.
The Yr 7 game was a close match with both teams playing good netball at times. Good centre court play from Emily Grey and POM Hestor Cox provided an excellent link between the defenders and the shooters and we eventually edged ahead to secure a 2-0 win.
The Yr 8 team also enjoyed an 8-4 win thanks to excellent play from Tara Wilson-Danby to earn her the POM award, and good defending and shooting.

One of the big local competitions of the season saw our senior hockey players at Stanley Park for the Lancashire U19 Hockey Tournament.
It was a tough start to the tournament for the 1st XI, with a match against Kirkham. They played well and had a number of scoring opportunities, with Natasha Singleton a constant threat on the right, but we eventually succumbed to a quickly taken Kirkham free hit and lost 0 - 2. Natasha Singleton

The second game, against Stonyhurst College, was an end to end affair with both teams having chances, but at the final whistle neither could break the deadlock. This meant the final place was to be decided by a penalty stroke competition! Five brilliantly taken strokes, the best of which was an off the post goal by Sophie Owen, secured our place in the final group.

In the finals we struggled to keep possession and as tiredness told, we conceded defeat to both Lancaster 0-1 and Arnold 0-3, and had to settle for 4th spot.

The 2nd XI took to the field confident after our recent win over Kirkham and things started well when we went ahead against Arnold with a great strike from Sophia Crawshay. However, this seemed to spur Arnold on and they came back at us, putting us under considerable pressure and only good saves from Vicki Hives kept them at bay. Eventually, Arnold did get on terms and this drained the confidence from us and we struggled to get the ball away from the back.
Arnold capitalised and scored a further four goals, final score 1-5.
In our second game we again had chances to get on the score sheet but it was Kirkham that scored first and we could not get back on terms and eventually lost 0-2.

Senior Coach Mrs Hanham commented, "Again a disappointing final position but an excellent afternoon's hockey. Overall we played some good hockey in parts and I am sure with greater confidence and fitness, we will build on this experience in our future matches."
