A taste of success

Catering Staff from King Edward and Queen Mary School are turning up the heat in the kitchen after gaining an NVQ Level 2 in Multi-Skilled Hospitality from Blackpool and The Fylde College.
Susan Douglas, Eleanor Barnes, Janet Johnson, Julie Greenwood and Susan Dixon all successfully completed the specialist on-the-job training, which has given them a professional qualification while learning even more detail about their everyday roles.
The NVQ covers areas such as health and safety in the workplace, customer service, food preparation, food safety and teamwork, along with other essential skills for those working in the hospitality industry.
Training was delivered at the school by a qualified assessor from the College, and involved one day of learning a week over a nine month period.
The up-skilling was part of the national Train to Gain scheme, a government funded initiative to deliver vocational training to employees to help employers improve their business performance.
Catering Manager Paul Gulwell commented, "I think it is very important for staff to have a focus in their work and what better way than gaining a qualification that relates to what you do every day. They have certainly enjoyed their training and the delivery by Christine Baron from the School of Catering and Food Production at the College, has been outstanding. The ladies have always taken pride in their work and now they have something to show for it."
With such a skilled catering staff at the school the pupils are bound to be in for a positive dining experience whenever they eat.
