As with most new things in life, it is always best to start gently and gain experience before taking on a big challenge. So it seems fitting that the Year 7 girls were rewarded for a season committed to hockey practices and matches, with a weekend tour to East Lancashire. For all of the girls it was the first of what we hope will be many hockey tours at KEQMS maybe culminating in a tour to New Zealand, as the seniors are enjoying this summer. For our young players it certainly was an action packed couple of days!
The tour started with tough matches against St.Marys Hall U13's but both A & B teams gave a good account of themselves against older opposition but came out on the wrong side of the 2-4 and 1-6 scorelines. In the evening indoor rounders was the activity and with Nicole Heath providing the entertainment and a close fought game and a good time was had by all.
Saturday saw us travel to Blackburn to play Blackburn Northern Hockey Club Juniors that comprised of a mix of boys & girls. In terribly wet conditions both teams played well with the A team winning 3-0 while the B team drew 2-2 conceding the lead in the last few minutes of the game.
It was then off for lunch before enjoying the afternoon in the Waves Fun Pool. The evening was filled watching ‘Aliens in the attic' in the impressive St.Marys Hall theatre and then it was off to bed to get ready for another action packed day on Sunday.
Sunday was an early start with matches against St.Marys Hall Boarders at 8.30am! The A team game saw Emily Grey grab a hat-trick in the 4-1 win whilst the B team was a closer affair with us just edging out in front thanks to a goal from Eleanor Sharples. Next it was off to Ski Rossendale for a ski lesson with the beginners providing endless entertainment with the odd (!) spill here and there, before we returned home tired, but having had a fun filled weekend!
