Sport
KEQMS has a tradition of excellence in sport. The school enjoys superb playing fields, including an international standard artificial sports ground, on a magnificent campus. Highly qualified PE and Games staff are supported by committed and experienced teachers who give their time during the week and on Saturdays to take teams for matches against other schools. Boys and girls regularly gain honours at county, regional and national representative levels. Our teams go on tour in the UK, Europe and the Southern Hemisphere. Playing in a team provides opportunities for personal development and leadership, as well as valuable life lessons about commitment and winning and losing.
The major games for boys are rugby and cricket. In addition, boys' hockey and athletics have grown in popularity in recent years and there are also opportunities to pursue a host of other sports including tennis, golf, badminton, table tennis and soccer.
The major girls' sports are hockey, netball and athletics. In 2008, 25 girls represented Lancashire at hockey. There is a full programme of fixtures against independent and state schools and KEQMS girls regularly compete at the Fylde Coast and Lancashire Schools Athletics Championships. Tennis and badminton are also popular and senior girls play rugby sevens, attending regional and national tournaments.
The emphasis in our sports programme is on participation, so pupils are encouraged to find the activity and level of involvement that they enjoy. For example, those not selected for school teams can represent one of four Houses in intramural competition. Through the PE and Games programme, pupils learn about the importance of exercise and diet for fitness in later life.
