Course Guide
Academic Study
This section contains detailed information about the content and teaching for each subject which we hope will be useful as you make the important decision about what to study for the next two years. The Head of Sixth Form, Assistant Head of Sixth Form and Heads of Department are always keen to explain in further detail just what subjects involve and how usefully they combine with each other.
It is important to choose a sensible combination of A level subjects which leave open as many career options as possible. The only restrictions on your choice of subjects are those which may be imposed by a university course and you will be given advice about this. Many different combinations are available, an increasing number of which link arts and science subjects.
Most students take four or five subjects to AS level in the Lower Sixth and three or four to A2 level in the Upper Sixth. However, we offer combinations and courses to suit all abilities and aspirations: there are over twenty subjects from which to choose. We provide full support for each individual through extra tuition, pastoral care and careers guidance. The Head of Sixth Form is supported by a team of tutors who see students daily and supervise individual academic and personal progress.
