Course details

You will follow a course of 19th/20th Century history
Like all A level subjects, A level will consist of 4 modules. Two at AS and two at A2.

Assessment Details - AS C

Unit I: Britain 1815-65

Unit 2: The Campaign for African-American Civil Rights, 1950-68

Assessment Details - A2 C

A further two modules can be taken to make up a full A level.

The Modules are likely to be:
Unit 3: British State and People 1865-1915

Unit 4: An historical enquiry into a theme demonstrating change over 100 years.

Skills gained

Historians develop life skills such as dealing with problems of bias and prejudice; considering the feelings, attitude and points of view of others; making judgements about human nature and behaviour and developing independent minds. In addition, the successful historian will have demonstrated decision making, analytical, communication and management skills, all of which are highly marketable.

There are links with other social sciences - politics, geography, economics, business studies and other arts subjects - English literature and language.

Post A Level

Specialist history or combined arts/social science courses at university.
Careers - law, journalism, administration, civil service. Graduates in history enter a very wide range of professions.
