Library

The Hawkins Library opened in 2005 and is at the centre of learning in the school. It is a spacious and bright room which combines the original features of the Edwardian building with a mezzanine floor and modern facilities. The Library holds over 10,000 titles of fiction and non-fiction. In addition to academic texts for reference and extended study, the Library subscribes to newspapers and journals and loans DVDs and CDs. There are 24 networked computers for independent study. The Searchstar database is superb research tool.

Sixth formers are encouraged to make the most of their non-contact time in school by designating sessions in the Library. The Library is therefore used extensively before, during and after the school day by students who have found the studious atmosphere a pleasant place to work. Students learn library skills throughout their time at KEQMS so they are well equipped to use a university or professional library in later life.
