Despite the distractions of the England football match our committed athletes took to the track for their last outing of the season and it proved to be the best yet for the U17 team when our Year 11 athletes combined with our successful Year 10 to be crowned Fylde Coast Champions!
Year 11 Lottie Owen, was the star performer winning both the long jump with an excellent jump of 4.93m and 300m with ease, having rushed from her morning German exam. Other Year 11's taking time out from exams and revision were Natasha Singleton who came 2nd in the triple jump and 3rd in the 100m, Katie Warren 3rd in high jump, 7th in 300m and Louise Kilner 7th in the discus.
The Year 10 athletes capped a great season with Sophia Crawshay recording a personal best to win the 80H in 13.5s and backed this up with 3rd place in the discus. Great runs in the 1500m by Captain Elizabeth Barrow (3rd) and Yasmin Clayton(4th) earned valauble points as did Ruby Lawson (3rd) 800m and Elle Andeson who placed 2nd in the HJ while Katy Alderson had two 3rd places in the long jump and 200m. The point score was close until the final relay but after a superb team effort the team were celebrating a 3 point win ahead of rivals Kirkham.
In the depleted Year 9 team Philippa Wood finished 6th in the 1500m, a position matched by Molly Shelley with a seasons best of 16.62m in the shot.
The Year 7 team celebrated a number of podium performances with Emily Grey getting the day off to a great start with a win in the Standing Triple Jump with a jump of 5.74m. There were 2nd places for Georgia Raines ( Rounders Ball 32.90m) and Jessica Kirkpatrick with a personal best of 1.28m in the high jump and Emily Grey capped a good day with 4th place in the long jump.
With the athletics season drawing to a close we look back on a great day, a great team performance by the Year 11 & Year 10 athletes and many personal best performances, by the many athletes who have taken part in athletics representing the school teams this term. Pictures
