U14 B VIII - Won 1 - 0
Scorer : Sophie Jones
POM - Ella Morris

The U14 B team continue unbeaten in the league after a close 1 - 0 win over Lytham. The first half saw us dominate play, creating a number of goal scoring opportunities but we just could not get the ball in the net partly due to great keeping by the Lytham keeper.

In the second half we continued to press and a hard working display by Darley Harrison and Sophie Jones created more chances while a solid display at the back by Ella Morris thwarted the Lytham attacks. We finally broke through in the second half thanks to a Sophie Jones goal which secured the points by the final whistle.King Edward VII & Queen Mary School

Just like the Year 9 the local hockey league provides playing opportunities for players who do not play regularly and this week saw the Yr 8 start their first league game.

The B team were unlucky not to end with a win after a good first half which saw them go into the break 3 - 2 ahead thanks to a Tilly Lawson hat-trick. In the second half we again dominated play but Baines scored twice to edge ahead by the final whistle.

The C team, however, proved too strong for Baines and great defending by Sasha Bell-Smith at the back thwarted all the Baines attacks, while our forwards found the net three times to record our first win.

It was only when I went onto the Altrincham Grammar School for Girls website to get directions for this fixture that I realised how a big a school it is with over 1200 girls! This makes the achievement of our hockey teams today even more impressive and highlights how much we ‘punch above our weight' on the sports front and is reward for all the hard work our young players and coaches put in throughout the season!

The youngest teams set the standard with wins for all! The U12 A were behind 0 - 1 at the break despite some good play but a great second half display, with Mady Fox superb on the wing and two goals from Captain Leah Macaluay earned a well deserved win. The U12 B team were always the better team and great play down the right from Jess Heaton & Jodie Wilcox created a number of chances. It was Jodie who put us infront in the first half with a determined run and shot which the Altrincham GK could not keep out. A close second half saw Altrincham have a number of chances but good defending from Robyn Whitaker kept them out and the game was won with another goal from Jodie Wilcox.

The U13XI got off to a great start with three goals from Charlotte Holyoak, Niamh Hendry and Tilly Lawson in the first half. Niamh Hendry was dominant in midfield and Frances Warren thwarted the Altrincham attacks. After the break Altrincham increased the intensity of their play and this, together with a lapse in our concentration, saw our opponents get back into the game with a goal. This inspired them and set panic into our play and they scored again to ensure a grandstand finish. We then raised our game and started to put them under pressure and held on to a well deserved draw.

The U15 girls started slowly against a bright and determined Altrincham team. They were under heavy pressure in defence and Beth Holyoak came to the rescue on a number of occasions. We conceded two goals before half time one coming from a bizarre Christy O'Neill own goal. The second half Altrincham added to their total and the girls picked up their game. Attacking downwind KEQMS started to press forward. Laura Stokes squeezed home the only goal for KEQMS. Tara Wilson Danby, played very well working very hard against a very good player and this earned her the ‘player of the match' award.
A very good performance from the under 14's with excellent marking at the back from Ella Morris, Katy Stokes and Eleanor Wood kept Altrincham's chances to a limit. Becky Ingham Charlotte Owen and Emily Grey dominated the midfield and created a number of chances for Nicole Brown and Jess Kirkpatrick. Hester Cox made some good runs towards the Altrincham circle at right forward, winning a short corner which we were unlucky not to convert. Nicole Brown scored the opening goal for KEQMS after some good work into the wind. KEQMS had a good chance to win the game but were denied by the post. In the last 5 seconds of the game Altrincham were fortunate to equalise with a shot from the right hand side of the circle. Overall a good performance from the girls with POM Becky Ingham
