Girls and boys in the Senior School continue to benefit from small class sizes and teachers who are enthusiastic about their subject. Pupils are encouraged to set personal targets and to take responsibility for their learning both in and out of the classroom. They are supported by Tutors and Heads of Year who know the individual pupils in their care and will contact parents about matters of academic progress and welfare.
In Years 7 to 9 the curriculum is designed to enable pupils to study a comprehensive range of subjects and to develop their thinking about themselves and their place in the world. The two year GCSE course in Years 10 and 11 consists of both core subjects and a wide choice of options. Programmes of study and teaching methods are designed to stimulate young minds and to enable each individual to achieve his or her potential in public examinations.
The pupils at KEQMS include those who are academically very able and boys and girls whose talents lie in other fields. However, we consistently ‘add value’ by achieving better results than those predicted by national baseline tests. Expert support is provided for those with learning needs across the ability range.
Information and Communication Technology
Pupils are taught core skills in word processing, spreadsheets and graphing, interactive presentations and use of databases. However, information technology is integrated into learning in all subjects. Each pupil has his or her own network and email account providing filtered broadband internet and intranet access. Boys and girls may log on to machines in the ICT suites or at stations around the school to study and research independently.
